Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire competed to a 0-0 draw in the team's third preseason scrimmage today at Joe DiMaggio Complex in Clearwater, Florida.
The Union created several chances in the first half of the match against Chicago, with CJ Sapong, Fafa Picault and Ilsinho finding opportunities around the net.
Philadelphia's defense, led by goalkeeper John McCarthy, shutout Chicago's aggressive attack in the first 45 minutes of action.
The Boys in Blue then made their first round of substitutions at the half, with the score still 0-0:
The Union entered the second half of the match and continued to press high against the Fire. After some back and forth play, the team made its second round of substitutions in the 62nd minute:

In the 72nd minute, midfielder Marcus Epps was fouled on outside the box. Adam Najem was awarded the free kick, but ultimately was unable to convert.
Najem then took the free kick again in the 79th minute after Eric Ayuk was tripped outside the box, but was cleared by the Fire.
Philadelphia's backline continued to stand tall during the match with defender Auston Trusty playing the full 90 minutes, the only Union player to complete the full time in today's scrimmage.
Goalkeeper Jake McGuire, who came on in the 62nd minute of play for McCarthy, closed the match with a shutout.
The Union will now return home and conclude its first stint of preseason training but will return to sunny Clearwater, Florida next week as the team prepares to enter the Suncoast Invitational.
