Philadelphia Union fell to Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 in their final preseason match of 2018. The Union will return to Chester this week as they prepare for their 2018 MLS regular-season opener against New England Revolution at Talen Energy Stadium.
The Union had their best look of the first half in the 11thminute. Marcus Epps danced through traffic and ultimately took a shot from just outside the 18 that was pushed wide of the net, keeping the match scoreless.
Tampa Bay would go on to score a pair of goals in the first 45 minutes of play. Jochen Graf got the Rowdies on the board first in the 19th minute. 16 minutes later, Michael Nanchoff found the back of net to give Tampa Bay the 2-0 lead at halftime.
Philadelphia struck in the 84th minute thanks to the magnificent left foot of Haris Medujanin. After a Tampa Bay foul, the Union were awarded a free kick from beyond the 18 yard box. Medunjanin struck from distance, grazing the post and in for the Union’s first goal of the night.
The Union closed out the match with multiple chances to find the equalizer, but the final whistle blew before Philadelphia could find the second goal. The Union will return to Talen Energy Stadium on Saturday, March 3 for their home opener against the Revolution.
