D.C. United scores late equalizer in first home game
Houston Dynamo got off to yet another hot start in the first half against D.C. United at the Maryland SoccerPlex, as Alberth Ellis found the back of the net in the 30th minute. His goal was then followed up another goal scored just a minute later by Mauro Manotas in the 31st minute. DCU showed life in the second half, as Darren Mattocks slotted one into the net in the 50th minute to trim the lead down to one. In the seventh minute of stoppage time Luciano Acosta one-timed a headed pass to tie the match at the death and finish the game at 2-2.
Sporting Kansas City wins second close game in a row
Sporting Kansas City is no stranger to high scoring games, and it happened once again this past Saturday against San Jose Earthquakes. Ilie Sanchez converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute to open the scoring for SKC. The 33rd minute saw an equalizing goal as San Jose midfielder Vako put one in the back of the net to tie the game at one. In the 56th minute Graham Zusi put SKC up 2-1 with a glorious strike from outside the box. Felipe Gutierrez found the back of the net once again for SKC as he put his club up 3-1 in the 68th minute. A late goal for Chris Wondolowski in stoppage time trimmed the lead down 3-2 but that was all she wrote, as SKC wins a narrow game at home.
Defending Champs fall to Canadian rival
Olympic Stadium in Montreal hosted another classic 401 Derby match this past Saturday between Toronto FC and Montreal Impact. Montreal took the lead late in the first half as Jeisson Vargas slotted one past Alex Bono in the 41stminute to put the home team up 1-0. The 84th minute saw a Jozy Altidore equalizing chance get cleared off the line by Marc Petrasso to keep the lead and eventually the win for Montreal.
Chicago falls to Minnesota
Chicago Fire traveled Minneapolis on Saturday to take on Minnesota United. Minnesota took the first lead of the game as Ibson found the back of the net in the 55th minute to give the Loons a 1-0 lead. Chicago leveled the game at one as Elliot Collier hit home a rebound in the 59th minute. A headed goal by Sam Nicholson in the 66th minute ended up being the game winner as the Loons pick up another three points.
RSL holds off the Red Bulls
Albert Rusnak converted a penalty kick for Real Salt Lake in just the 4th minute to give RSL the early 1-0 lead on New York Red Bulls. The real hero of the game however, was RSL keeper Nick Rimando. Rimando made several crucial saves throughout the rest of the game to keep the clean sheet in-tact, and help RSL hold on to the 1-0 win.
