Union Power Rankings: Week 5

The Union are coming off a 1-1 draw against San Jose Earthquakes this past Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium. With the home draw, we dive into where Philadelphia ranks across the soccer landscape in this week’s Power Rankings.

Jason Davis at ESPNFC has the Union slotted in the number 14 spot, moving up two positions from the previous week.  Davis commented on the club’s numerous chances to find the second goal against San Jose and noted that Head Coach Jim Curtin isn’t afraid to roll out the young guys.

Soccer America: 13

The Union dropped from number 12 in the power rankings to number 13 this week after their home draw with San Jose. The staff at Soccer America pointed out that although Union Captain Alejandro Bedoya recorded a nice equalizer, the Union did not pull out the home win.

MLSsoccer: 17
Philadelphia moved up slightly in the eyes of the league website climbing from number 18 to number 17 in their rankings. The staff made comment on the return of Fafa Picault and his ability to change the match for Philadelphia, “Fafa Picault continues to do the soccer equivalent of the midrange jumper in basketball, finding a precise spot near the endline in the box and helping to produce a goal from it once again.” MLSsoccer said.

The Union will have a chance to climb up the rankings once more with a victory over Orlando on Friday.
