Casey retires among Union's all-time offensive leaders

This past season filled Philadelphia Union supporters with optimism surrounding the future. Yet an announcement, shortly after the campaign concluded, also gave fans of the club a reason to look back.

Conor Casey, one of the more memorable players in Union history and a consummate fan favorite, announced his retirement after an illustrious professional career that included 10 seasons in Major League Soccer as well as topflight experience in Germany and 19 caps for the United States Men’s National Team.

The New Hampshire-born forward who now calls the Denver area home retires among the most influential offensive threats the Union have fielded over their seven-season MLS run. His 21 tallies for Philadelphia between the 2013-2015 seasons rank third all-time in the club’s goal-scoring record books. Additionally, the 6’1” striker slots in third place in Union history in both shots and shots on goal, trailing only Sebastien Le Toux and Jack McInerney in all three aforementioned categories.

His 31 regular-season appearances for the Union in 2013 represent a single-season MLS best for the forward, and his 10 goals that year were his fourth double-digit scoring campaign in North America.

A fixture in Philadelphia for three seasons, Casey was also an MLS mainstay for a full decade. At 71 career regular-season goals, the forward is tied for 23rd in all-time MLS scoring and among the top 50 in all-time shots taken.

A two-time MLS All-Star, Casey is also among the illustrious fraternity of players to have been named MLS Cup MVP after helping the Colorado Rapids capture the crown in 2010, his fourth season in the Rockies. He scored the game-tying goal for Colorado in the 57th minute of that contest.

Originally selected by Philadelphia in Stage Two of the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Process, Casey goes down as an indelible part of Union history and a player that all fans of the club will fondly remember.
