Bethlehem Steel FC Drop 4-0 Loss To New York Red Bulls II

Bethlehem Steel FC fell 4-0 to New York Red Bulls II Sunday night in the team’s first encounter with the New York side.

New York Red Bulls II got an early lead in the first minute after Steel FC defender Joshua Yaro scored an own goal. The home side extended the lead to 2-0 just two minutes later when Alex Muyl sent a rocket into the back of the net from the top of the 18.

Bethlehem Steel FC looked to make their mark in the game and were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute when Fabian Herbers was taken down in the box. Leo Fernandes stepped up to the plate, but Red Bulls' captain Ryan Meara made the save to maintain the home side's lead.

Two minutes before the half, New York extended the lead to three with a goal from Anatole Abang. Brandon Allen crossed the ball across the six yard box and Abang passed it into the back of the net.

Bethlehem Steel FC looked to make up the difference in the second half, but Derrick Etienne scored from Junior Flemming’s assist in the 71st minute to extend New York’s lead to four.

In the first minute of stoppage time, James Chambers received a second yellow card and Steel FC were reduced to 10. Chambers will now serve a one game suspension.

Academy product Auston Trusty and Josh Heard made their USL debuts in Sunday's match. Trusty is the first Philadelphia Union Academy member to earn game minutes with Steel FC. Bethlehem Steel FC return to action on Sunday, April 17 against Richmond Kickers at 3 p.m. at Lehigh University’s Goodman Stadium.
