Philadelphia Union goalkeeper John McCarthy is looking to build off the team's previous match against New York Red Bulls in tonight's second preseason scrimmage against the University of South Florida.
Despite falling short to Red Bull 4-3 on Saturday, McCarthy is focused on taking that experience, learning from it and coming out stronger when the team battles the USF Bulls.
"I think everybody needs to get the minutes under their belt," McCarthy said. "We definitely don't take them (USF) lightly, even though they're a college team. It'll be a good one for us for guys to try things out and get a different feel for the game."
McCarthy, who also happens to be a Philadelphia Eagles fan, is happy the team he's been rooting for since he was young was able to walk away with a victory on Sunday night.
"I couldn't be happier for the Eagles and I'm ecstatic for the city as a whole," McCarthy said.
Fans in the Clearwater area can watch McCarthy and the rest of the Union scrimmage against USF tonight, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex.
