CHESTER, Pa. (May 9, 2017) – Philadelphia Union in conjunction with U.S. Soccer have announced that Union Homegrown defender Matt Real has earned an international call-up with the United States Under-20 National Team.
Real will join the United States Under-20 National Team in Florida for domestic camp, as the club prepares for international friendlies in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The USYNT will square off against Honduras twice, on May 17 and 19, in Honduras.
Real was signed by Philadelphia Union as a Homegrown Player on January 18, 2018, after spending time developing in the club’s Academy and playing for USL affiliate Bethlehem Steel FC. At the international level, Real was called up for the inaugural United States Youth National Team Summit Camp in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, where he was with the United States Under-20 National Team. Previously, he was with the U.S. U-18s, including for the 2017 U-18 Lisbon International Tournament, where he started all three matches against Japan, Norway and Portugal.
Real earned his first call-up as a professional ahead of the US U-20 training camp in Spain, with friendlies scheduled for March 21, March 23 and March 27. He started the first friendly, vs. France's U-21s.
