Philadelphia Union To Host Eintracht Frankfurt In International Friendly
German Bundesliga club to visit Talen Energy Stadium on Saturday, July 14
CHESTER, Pa. (March 23, 2018) – Philadelphia Union announced today that they will host German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in an international friendly match at Talen Energy Stadium. The contest takes place on Saturday, July 14 and is set for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
The match counts as the Bonus Game for all Union Full Season Ticket Members and is included in their memberships. Season Ticket Members and corporate partners will receive a pre-sale code to purchase additional tickets during an exclusive window beginning Tuesday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. ET and start at $25. Groups of 10 or more qualify for a discounted starting rate of $23. For all ticket information, visit www.philadelphiaunion.com.
Eintracht Frankfurt is currently competing in the Bundesliga, the topflight of professional soccer in Germany. The club has won the German championship once, in 1959, and has won the German Cup four times (1974, 1975, 1981, 1988). Nicknamed Die Adler, or the Eagles, Frankfurt also finished runners-up in the Cup last season and two other times prior. In Europe, Frankfurt has won the UEFA Europa League (then called the UEFA Cup) one time, in 1979-80.
This season, Frankfurt currently sits in fourth place in the Bundesliga standings, which would qualify them directly to the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. The club’s roster features American international Timothy Chandler, who was a teammate of Union captain Alejandro Bedoya at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. French forward Sebastian Haller is the team’s leading goal scorer, with eight league tallies this season. Eintracht Frankfurt’s travel roster for the match at Talen Energy Stadium will be announced at a later date.
Frankfurt, Germany is also an official “sister city” of Philadelphia. As named in 2015, the sister city arrangement is one of eight held by Philadelphia around the globe. The relationship between the two cities is marked by an exchange of business, culture, arts, education and economic opportunities.
