Reasons to Watch: Union vs. Colorado Rapids

Keeper Battles

Saturday's match is going to feature a goalkeeping duel that will surely be a treat to watch. On one side is Andre Blake, reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. In his last match, he set a Union record for consecutive shutouts with four, and hasn't allowed a goal in 363 game minutes, the longest stretch in MLS this season. He has five shutouts on the season, just one off his total from last season, and could potentially set a record for longest scoreless stretch in Union history. On the other side of the pitch will either be Tim Howard, USMNT star, or Zac MacMath, former Union keeper. Howard moved to Colorado last season from Everton of the English Premier League, and has been solid despite the Rapids's current record. As for MacMath, he filled in for Howard during his suspension and also played particularly well. He is also the Union's shutout leader and holder of the Union's longest scoreless streak at 408 minutes. If everything falls into place, Blake could potentially break MacMath's record while the two are on the pitch together.

Short Rest

Both teams are currently in the middle of double game weeks. Colorado traveled to Chicago Fire, where they lost 3-0, before they travel to Talen Energy Stadium for their second match of the week. Meanwhile, the Union defeated Houston Dynamo 2-0 and will host Colorado. It's a little easier being home for both games as opposed to being on the road for both, but it's never easy going from a Wednesday match to a Saturday game. Head Coach Jim Curtin doesn't expect to make too many lineup changes from Wednesday's match to Saturday's, but he also said if a player isn't ready to go, there are a few guys waiting in the wing ready to step up. Saturday could present a different lineup for the Union, so fans may want to tune-in to the game just in case.

Climbing the Ladder

The Union have been in fine form as of late, and the results have been a climb up the table. The Union are unbeaten in five matches, earning 11 out of a possible 15 points in the last five games. The Union have not allowed a goal in four matches, all backstopped by Andre Blake, and are on a three game winning streak. Before the unbeaten streak, the Union were last in the Eastern Conference, and now the team is in 7th place, just three points out of a playoff spot. A win against Colorado would help extend the Union's winning streak, set a new record for most scoreless minutes, notch the first home win against Colorado, and potentially move the team into a playoff position. Oh, and it's Military Appreciation Night. It's gonna be a doozy, so you should come to Talen Energy Stadium and join in on the fun.
